What is IR sensor?

ir sensor or an infrared sensor is the most widely used sensor for detecting objects, obstacles, and wireless functions. An IR sensor basically has the infrared led and photodiode,these pair is called as ir pair. the infrared LED emits the infrared rays whose range is 700nm to 1mm wavelength and these ir rays are invisible to our human eyes.

working

In general the working of the ir sensor module is as same as the ultrasonic sensor , but in ultrasonic sensor it works by the ultrasonic sound waves and the ir module works by the infrared rays.the infrared led emits the infrared rays and the rays travel in the air in case the rays strike any object then the rays are reflected back towards the module and rays received by the photodiode which lies beside of the infrared led. Depending on how much time the rays travels in the air the sensor can measure the distance of the object.

An ir sensor module has two leds as shown in the figure,one of the led is looks as normal as led which is called as infrared led and other one looks like led but which is coated with black colour and it is called as photodiode.

VCC(+)

the vcc pin is given to the power supply to the sensor module.the vcc pin is connected to the 5v or 3.3v pin in the arduino or other microcontrollers ,otherwise it can be connect the 5v supply to the vcc pin of the sensor module.



GROUND(-)

the ground(-) pin is power supply pin to the sensor module.

OUT

the outpin has the output that is in the form of digital output.

INFRARED LED

The ir sensor module has two leds as shown in the figure,one of the led is looks as normal led which is called as infrared led or ir transmitter.the transmitter emitts the infrared light rays which are in range of 700nm to 1mm and these are invisible to the human eyes.

PHOTODIODE

The ir sensor module has two leds as shown in the figure,one of the led is looks as normal led which is called as infrared led and other one is looks like led but which is coated with black colour and it is called as photodiode.the photodiode has the capability of to receive the ir rays.

POTENTIOMETER

POWER LED

the power led will turn on if the power supply is given to the sensor module.the range of power supply is 3.3v to 5v.

OUTPUT LED

the led will turn on if the output of the sensor module goes high.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The measuring range of the lm393 is 2cm to30cm.

The operating voltage is 5v.

The operating current is 15ma.

The maximum current drawn by the sensor is 20ma.

The working temperature of the sensor is -15 to 70.

The frequency of the light wave released by the sensor in range of 700nm to 1mm.

The detecting angle of the sensor is 35 degrees
